The basics
What is a car pullout service?
A car pullout service brings a stuck vehicle back onto firm ground, using a recovery vehicle with a strap or a winch. In Dubai that mostly means a car, SUV or pickup sunk in soft sand, in the desert or on a beach. A tow is different: it moves a vehicle that can't be driven from one place to another.
What is the difference between a pullout and towing?
They answer different problems, and sometimes you need both in a row. This table shows where each one fits.
| Question | Car pullout | Towing |
|---|---|---|
| Goal | Free a vehicle that is stuck | Move a vehicle that can't be driven |
| Where | Soft sand, dunes, desert tracks, beaches | Roads, car parks, workshops, between emirates |
| Equipment | 4x4 recovery vehicle, straps, winch, recovery boards | Flatbed or wheel-lift truck |
| Who calls | Weekend drivers, visitors in rental SUVs, off-roaders | Drivers with a breakdown, crash damage or a warning light |
| What follows | Often the car drives away; if not, a tow | Repair at a workshop |
For the tow side, see our towing service.
Situations
When do you need a pullout?
You need a pullout when the vehicle is stuck in soft ground and spinning its wheels only digs it in deeper. If it is otherwise running fine, the pullout is the whole job.
- The wheels spin and the vehicle sinks, in desert sand or at the foot of a dune.
- The vehicle sits on a dune face or slope and can't climb or reverse out.
- A rental SUV stopped on a sandy track at the edge of the desert.
- A car parked on beach sand that has sunk to its sills.
- One or two wheels are buried at the side of an off-road track.
If the vehicle is on tarmac and won't move, that is not a pullout: read about towing or roadside assistance.
Methods
What types of vehicle extraction are there?
Most pullouts combine a few methods: letting the tyres down, a strap pull, a winch pull for deep or sloping ground, and recovery boards to finish. The crew picks the combination from how the vehicle sits, which is why we ask for a photo.
| Method | What happens | Usually used when |
|---|---|---|
| Tyres let down | Lower pressure widens the tyre's footprint so it floats on the sand | The vehicle is shallow and on level ground; sometimes it then drives out without any pull |
| Strap pull | A kinetic recovery strap links the stuck vehicle to the recovery vehicle, rated point to rated point | Most vehicles bogged on level or gently sloping sand |
| Winch pull | A winch, often through a snatch block, gives a steady pull instead of a jerk | Deep burial, a dune face, or a heavy vehicle |
| Recovery boards | Boards under the driven wheels give grip to drive onto firm sand | To finish a pull, or when only the wheels are buried |
| Tow afterwards | A flatbed takes the vehicle to a workshop | The vehicle can't drive away after the pullout |
The plan
What affects the recovery method, and the quote?
How deep the vehicle sits, whether it is on a slope, how heavy it is and how far it is from firm ground decide the method. The same things shape the price, so you get a quote on WhatsApp before we start.
- Depth: wheels buried to the hubs is a different job from wheels sunk a few centimetres.
- Slope: a dune face usually means a winch rather than a strap alone.
- Weight: a loaded pickup needs more pull than a compact crossover.
- Recovery points: a strap must attach to a rated point, never a tow ball or a plastic bumper. Bent or missing points change the plan, so tell us.
- Distance: how far off a track the vehicle sits, and how far the team travels to reach you.
Honest limits
What do you not pull out?
We don't do basement or underground car-park pullouts, and we don't pull vehicles out of ditches, mud or building sites. Our pullouts are for sand, desert and beach recovery by our own 4x4 team.
A vehicle that has rolled onto its side or roof is not a standard pullout either: call us and describe the situation first. Vehicles in deep water or on ground that may give way are not safe to attempt, and if anyone is in danger, call 999.
What to send for a pullout
- 1Your live location pin
- 2A photo showing how deep the wheels sit
- 3Make, model and whether it is two- or four-wheel drive
- 4Level ground or a slope, and how many people are with you
- 5Whether the tyres are already let down and the recovery points are in good order
Can a sedan or a small SUV be recovered?
Yes. Sedans and small SUVs usually sit lighter and have not sunk as deep, so they are often quicker to free than a heavy 4x4. Send a photo and the dispatcher confirms the plan.
What about a heavy 4x4 or pickup?
Land Cruisers, Patrols and big pickups need more pull and more care with recovery points. Read 4x4 stuck in sand for the details, or what to do right now if the vehicle is stuck as you read this.
Where do you work?
Dubai's desert and beach areas, including Big Red (Al Badayer), Lahbab, Margham and Al Lisaili. See desert recovery for the full picture.
Frequently asked questions
What is a car pullout service?
A car pullout service brings a stuck vehicle back onto firm ground using a recovery vehicle, a strap or a winch. In Dubai it mostly means a car, SUV or pickup sunk in soft sand, in the desert or on a beach.
What is the difference between a pullout and a tow?
A pullout frees a vehicle that is stuck. A tow moves a vehicle that cannot be driven from one place to another. Many desert jobs need the pullout first and a tow afterwards.
Can you pull a sedan out of sand?
Yes. A sedan is often easier to recover than a heavy 4x4 because it sits lighter and has usually not sunk as deep. Send a photo showing how deep the wheels are, and the dispatcher confirms the method.
Do you do basement or underground car-park pullouts?
No. We don't do basement or underground car-park pullouts, and we don't pull vehicles out of ditches, mud or building sites. Our pullouts are for sand, desert and beach recovery.
Can you recover a car stuck on a beach?
Yes, on beaches in Dubai that our 4x4 recovery vehicle can reach. Send your pin and say if the sea is close, because a rising tide changes how urgent the job is.
How do you find me in the desert?
Send a WhatsApp live location pin. You can add a what3words address or GPS coordinates too. Landmarks alone are unreliable in dunes because they all look alike.
How much does a car pullout cost?
There is no fixed price, because pullouts differ. How deep the vehicle sits, how far it is from firm ground, how far the team travels and the vehicle weight all matter. You get a quote on WhatsApp before we start.
What should I send on WhatsApp for a pullout?
Your live location pin and a photo showing how deep the wheels sit. Add the make and model, whether it is two- or four-wheel drive, whether the ground is level or sloping, and how many people are with you.
